Recently did a complete upgrade of my Sarge system via Synaptic and then
reloaded Gnome after I discovered that uninstalling PERL meant
uninstalling one's desktop.

Reinstalled MPlayer (via Synaptic) but when I tried to launch it I got:

$ mplayer
mplayer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.0: undefined symbol:
NeAACDecOpen

gmplayer
gmplayer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.0: undefined symbol:
NeAACDecOpen

I gather NeAACDecOpen is a renaming of FAAD2. I had neither FAAD nor
FAAD2 installed. Neither will install properly.

Anyone any ideas please?
