Mepis posts - here or elsewhere?

| If this is OT then I apologise, I just wonder if someone could tell a very
confused Linux noob the best place to be asking questions regarding Mepis -
is it here, with Mepis being based on Debian?

Go ahead. I have never used Mepis though. mepislovers.org might get you more
numerous and helpful responses.

| Not so far - I am just getting a bit desperate, I want to get online with
Linux asap and I've come up against a brick wall.
I totally understand that learning Linux is a steep learning curve, I look
forward to that but I just need help getting myself online, once that is out
of the way I can cut down on all this dual booting I've been doing and start
reading the forums and newsgroups properly, at the moment I'm dual booting
all day long and it's getting me down :-)
My problem is that I am trying to configure an ADSL modem router, a Sparkcom
AR41/2C, and I cannot get access to it. To configure the router I have to
open up a browser window, type in an IP then give a user name and password.
It works like a charm in XP, but when I try with Mepis I get
"The connection was refused when attempting to contact 10.0.0.2"
All the lights on the router are flashing as they should do. When I tried to
ping the router, I got no reply.
Is there a URL that gives me the basics of configuring routers with Linux -
or is this something you've come across before and can solve quickly?

The best place would probably be a mailing list or web forum if
mepis.com or .org has a link to one. Most questions can probably be
answered here or in other (comp|alt).os.linux newsgroups.

First of all, are you running Mepis from your hard disk or from the CD. Did
it work with the CD? What verison of Mepis are you running? What browser
are you using? What is the IP you enter? Is it 10.0.0.2? Most modem/routers
have something like 192.168.1.1. Also if the router/modem is set up for
Win, it should work just fine with Mepis without any configuration. Have
you looked that the Mepis OS Center icon and clicked on the Network? What
do you see?
Finally, have you posted any of this on mepislovers.org or dotmepis.org?
That's where the Mepis heavyweights hang so you might go there straight
away.

Thanks to everyone who replied, but I actually managed to fix the problem, I
was using a static IP for my router instead of a dynamic one.
Thanks for taking the time anyway..
