using knoppix 3.7 with hd install ( Kn oppix forum dialog box does not allow
me to enter subject)--have p[posted to
linux debian user--problem is mucho serious as I cannot use net


I think I might have corrupted /dev as most of the files especially ttyS0
are locked---while setting up fax program system looped and was unable to
turn off phone--had to unplug from wall--maybe this did something

how can I unlock these files--googling and my reference books not helpful

as root

chmod 755 /dev/ttyS0 did nothing


any help really is appreciated--some reading tells me fschk maybe the answer
but I have never ran this command and am a newbiee but somewhat advanced

I'm afraid that the symptoms you have describes don't make much sense.
Please tell us _exactly_ what you did and _exactly_ what happened. Be
verbose and give _exact_ error messages.
