How do I get KDE installed and running

| Hello all,
I have Debian installed but I only have a command prompt. Whenever I use
Aptitude I select the KDE listing but the install results in errors and
I do not think anything installs.
Although it has recognized my eth0 it is not configure correctly to get
out through my router. I can not figure out how to use the commands.
I've used ifdown, ifconfig eth0 address 0.0.0.0 (real ip address used)
but the ifconfig give an error that host not identified.
I am trying to get eth0 configured so it can get what it needs from the net.
Struggle struggle, bubble bubble, am I drowning?
Thanks,
Fred

| By way of added information, I think I may have made a mistake with the
install. When it asked where to install more packages from I think I was
suppose to put disk one but I put disk 2 in. I think this because it
read the disk and then asked if there were anymore disk, if so put disk
two in the drive.

if you're running unstable/sid, kde's broken currently.
if not, take a good look at the errors.
