Author Authenticated apt ?

Hi

I was wondering if such a thing exists ? If not, is someone working on it ?

Let us say that a certain commercial vendor wishes to distribute some of its
products / updates to its clients. Given the popularity of Debian and
Debian based distributions (Ubuntu, Knoppix, MEPIS, etc.), they decide to
package their software as a bunch of .deb files (among other formats).
Instead of investing time / effort in a secure webserver that stores client
information (a security risk right there), they simply allow clients to use
authenticated apt that uses (say) Kerberos 5 tickets with a predetermined
lifetime to install the software / updates.

What do you think of the idea ?

Just my morning musings
