Hey all,

I got on the infamous machine yesterday and tried
several of the tricks mentioned. "linux single" didn't
work but the Grub menu gave me a recovery choice
which I took and I got a command prompt. After
changing the video card to an AGP ATI Rage XL
the ATI driver worked ok. I guess it was some-
thing about the pci card it didn't like. I am getting
a lot more comfortable with Debian stable but
one thing I do know is that make sure the hardware
is totally compatible.

Next project is to set up a secure wireless link
between two lans so highschool kids and war
drivers can't compromise the networks. There
is a highschool right across the street from the
lans in question. I'll be looking into vnc as
part of the solution.

thanks again to all,
charles.....
