It worked? That's unusual for things I post based on vague
recollections of what-I-did-last-time-it-happened-to-me. :-)

I'm no Grub guru, but I know there are lots of options. Grub is to
other bootlaoders what vi and emacs are to Windows Notepad. :-)

For a start, you could move the Windows entry in menu.lst to the top
and leave "0" as the default with a timeout of one second. Windows
users won't notice it's there, while you'll probably be able to press
a cursor key before the grub boot menu even appears. I cand do this
with my five-year-old Phoenix BIOS, for instance.

Other possibilities:

1. Don't have a boot menu at all, but assign a key to bring up the
grub prompt if wanted. (I *think* you can do this in grub.)

2. Set the menu colours to black on black, and memorise what a certain
combination of cursor-key presses will do.

3. Trust your users' intelligence and explain to them what's going on.
Anybody who can learn how to point and click in Windows can learn how
to refrain from pressing keys in Grub.
