I have a Debian Sarge installation, which was set up for
modem. Recently I abandoned the modem and now have cable
internet and new ISP.

How do I change the network settings? In SuSE, it was easy
as this was done in YAST. Here, I cannot change settings
using the KDE network utilities, they don't get past square
one due to errors (even using root privileges).

I tried installing SuSE 9 on this troublesome mobo, but I
have the same problems as with SuSE 8. System locks up
during CD initialisation as part of the install during
hardware detection because of my particular mobo, Biostar
8068 (predecessor of 8668), VIA P4M266 chipset, 1.7 GHz Intel
Celeron, nVidia GeForce4 MX440 Video card w/128 MB, 512 MB
DDR. This lockup requires hard powering off the MOBO in
order to reboot.

A Biostar P4M80M4 mobo is on order to replace this
troublesome mobo.

Debian did one thing right in that it goes to the safest mode
for installation, avoiding the hardware issues that I ran
into with the SuSE install. Installed without a hitch and
have enjoyed connectivity under modem.

If I can resolve me network connectivity issues, I just may
keep Debian.

Edit /etc/network/interfaces, or try kdesu for the KDE utilities.
