Author audio CD not found?

I have what I think is an odd problem running testing with kernal 2.6.x.

If I place a data CD or movie DVD in my drive it is found and I can mount it
with no problem.

When I put in an audio CD however it is not seen. None of the players or
music rippers (grip or cdparanoia) find the disk.

Is there some step I have missed?

Works fine.

Do you use the correct device? Are the permissions correct? Does cdplay
work?

I don't know if this is the case, but what happens if you place a
copy-protected audio CD in a current CD-ROM reader on a computer? From
what I've been reading, they won't play (I stopped buying CDs because
the manufacturers don't always tell you if they are copy protected or
not, so I can't test this)!

Have you tried this with an audio CD that you know is NOT copy protected?

If you do not mount (no automounter), it should play. I never had a
problem.

It worked under the 2.4 kernal. I ripped this CD once before for my
portable player so I know it should work. I believe the permissions are
correct. I do not have the cdplay package but the other cd players I have
fail to find the disk or come back with drive error.
