| Hello,
Just for information, I recently tested a Samsung R55 at a local shop.
Knoppix 5.0.1: default options, fails after recognising the PCMCIA card,
also the T2300 dual Core processor is well recognised. I didn't try it with
other APIC options, as it was a blitz action and I didn't really had much
time; the R50 with ATI X700 video card was stuck too.
Mandriva 2006.0 Live: 2.6.12.12 kernel and default option, takes a real long
time to boot despite 1024 MB RAM, I got an painful whistle out of the
speakers while booting, the booting music clip was hacked up, but I think
it was a memory issue.
Although the processor is well identified, it did not run with the SMP
kernel as it is not included in the live CD. The N-Vidia video card seems
to run OK out of the box. All hardware except the V.90 winmodem is
recognised, but I have concerns about the multi-format card reader and the
WLAN ipw 3495 A/B/G chip. I don't know if there's a ready to use direct
driver as for the 2100 or 2200 B/G chipsets for all distros.
The R50 model booted a little bit faster with no soundcard issue but the ATI
videocard didn't love it and I had the desktop's right quarter reported on
the left side and the menu bar, visually unreachable, out of the screen's
surface.
Ciao @+
