Exact Device URI entries?
|
|
|
| I am having trouble getting my Windows Network printer to work in CUPS.
I have CUPS running, using localhost:631, it looks good. Test page looks
like it will work, CUPS says printer is printing, but nothing happens.
Windows Network is called MSHOME.
Computer is SUNROOM
Printer is hpLaserJet 1300 PS
I tried Device URI of:
smb://mshome/sunroom/hpLaserJ
and CUPS seems to find it. But it won't print. Says it is printing, but
sticks at 0% done.
Window network identifies this printer on the net as hpLaserJ. I guess
eight characters is it...
Anyone see something I am missing?

Do I need to install another driver on the printer computer? I am running XP
PRO, and that is the only driver loaded. Does Linux need a Windows 2000
driver on the printer for CUPS to run it?. This printer is connected to
the printer port on the windows computer....

We have an HP LJ III hanging off my First Wife's XP (yeech!) box. It
works for me in CUPS. (But I do remember a little agony _getting_ it to
place nice -- the details have faded -- but nothing 'extra' needed to be
added to either the XP or my linux box.)
My CUPS printer URI looks like
smb://xp/HPLJIII
_Just_ the machine name there [xp] as defined in my /etc/hosts --
_without_ the LAN 'domain name'. (I am running with fixed IP
addresses.)
One thing that usually trips me up is her (the xp's) firewall. When she
wanders off, she turns on her firewall and it blocks all my access. It
could be some flavor and configuration of your winderz box's firewall.
