Crashed Windows XPP fat32 boot drive?

| Hi all,
I was wondering if I boot to Knoppix will
fsck fix a fat32 file system that was the boot
partition of an xp machine?
The c: partition was hosed during a power surge.

I'd say you should grab a win98 bootdisk and run scandisk on it.

Good idea except that it can't even "see" the drive. If fsck has
the same restriction, it wouldn't work either.

bootdisk.com might be able to offer something of use - ISTR the NTFS
disk set runs to 3 or 4 floppies, but you might also be able to get a
bootable rescue ISO
Hirens Boot CD springs to mind, but might not be ideal for your needs -
I think its about 66Mb and includes a LOT of apps to access NTFS file
systems from DOS etc.

type of applications on there...

Win98 was typically FAT32 only, it was only ME/2000/XP that forced the
use of NTFS, so earlier boot disks aren't likely to be able to handle
NTFS in any way, shape, or form.
IIRC, NTFS has also gone through several revisions, so a newer boot
image might be a more reliable way of handling an NTFS partition
correctly.

He stated in the OP it was a FAT32 partition.

It's possible, but before I'd try to repair it, I'd run 'badblocks' on it
first to make sure it's still all right.
