I once read about a pkg that could rip CDs on multiiple networked machines,
so that one could follow the progress on some kind of console, like "top".

What would its name be ??

Thanks,
Marc

If you use X, you could start any X based ripper on another machine
and have the graphical window on your X window terminal. Just log in
with 'ssh -X name@machine' and start program. You need to check so
that you have access to the CD for your user. You could also try 'ssh
-X name@machine -f /usr/bin/xterm'.

Good luck

Sounds kind of odd. You could run mosix to setup your cluster, stick the
music cd's into each machine and start... say... cdmp3 one each node, then
on the main node watch the processes with mon... but what's the point?

A better way would be to put a number of cd drives (scsi, ie,sata) into one
computer, load them with cd's... then for each loaded cd drive fire off a
console/konsole and run cdmp3 in each konsole. If running konsole on KDE,
you could simply click from konsole to konsole to view the progress. No
need for a network or moving cd's around via your sneakers...
