Hi group, I'm trying to install for the first time Debian 4.0, so far the
graphics are ok, the problem with the wireless card is that is not getting
activated, I used the Ethernet cable to get any additional updates and I
was able to connect to the net, on the Network section of the settings it
does list the wireless card and I have wrote all the necessary info, is
there anything I'm missing? please advice. TIA

A little more info would help. What wireless card is it? PCMCIA or
USB? What wireless router are you using? How is it configured?
Encryption on or off? What mode? Etc.

Has the driver for the card been loaded? If it has, /sbin/lsmod should
show it.

Also, what does /sbin/ifconfig and /sbin/iwconfig report?

To be specific, please post the output of "lsusb -v" and "lspci -v".

It will work after you install bcm43xx-fwcutter and use it to extract the
firmware.

And if you use APT to get bcm43xx-fwcutter it will ask if you want to
download and install the firmware. The interface will probably come up as
eth1 after a reboot.

Thanks Mark South,
Am I going to do the black listing of bcm43xx to as in Ubuntu?

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Blacklisting the driver *stops* it from working, OK?
That's for if you were going to use ndiswrapper, but you have no need of
that since the bcm43xx driver works well with your 4306 chipset.

Install bcm43xx-fwcutter, say "yes" when it offers to download the
firmware, reboot and see if network manager applet (gnome) or
knetworkmanager (KDE) show your wireless networks.

Let us know how it goes.

Oops! my bad ;), but as you said, I downloaded the firmware and after
rebooting my home network showed up on the list of wireless networks, put
in the info and voila i'm connected, once again thanks!

DHCP on or Static IP instead, and other such stuff.

I see from the other posts that you downloaded and installed the driver,
and wireless is working. Installing the appropriate driver always
helps. ;-)
