There are two different Nvidia drivers for Xorg. nv, which is GPL and
included on the DVD's and nvidia which is propertiary and developed by
Nvidia. I'm not sure if the DVD's include the non-free packages, but if it
does, it should be there.
The main differences between the drivers is that nvidia support hardware
OpenGL acceleration and nv don't.

The nvidia is not that hard to install over internet with etch. Just
use module-assistant to download source, compile and make package and
install it.
You realy should use Etch instead of Sarge. Etch is as stabel as
Sarge, and is much newer than Sarge.

| Hi, Also have a problem like this.
I have a PCI 5200 Nvidia card. the Sarge selected the versa and I can't
find the drivers on the source list. I need a net install. Which source
should add the package manager to get the correct drivers?
Thanks

Don't remember. It was so long ago I used Sarge. You could install
"nv", which is the Open Source 2D driver for Xorg. No, no 3D, all
thanks to nVidia.
You only need to add non-free after main and contrib in /etc/apt/
source.list
Then you should find source package. Don't remember if module-
assistant is in Sarge, but you should take some time and change to
Edge anyway, if you don't have special reason to not leave Sarge.

Hope it gives some help

I seem to have the same video card, gforce4mx 4000, and am using debian
sid (unstable), i installed the nvidia drivers using the nvidia script
and it works great, I get a nice nvidia splashscreen too, I would
guess it should work with etch, and sarge,
There is a script that will install this for you.
bare in mind the following page of links / scripts are for kanotix
(debian sid),
http://kanotix.com/files/
may be useful
i think its a standard script to get, and do what ever is needed to
install the nvidia drivers, etc
Hope this helps
