For Debians reasons Firefox was replaced with Iceweasel. At the same time
some of Firefoxs functions were either crippled or removed.

I am overseeing a small website for a local community centre, I found a
host that is using a web development software called SOHOLauncher which
can be used with your local web browser to develop a site. The reason for
this approach is that there will be a number of people with very little
experience modifying the content of designated pages, without cutting
into my time.

To make a long story short, after a week of head scratching and enquires
in soho forum, I had to scrap iceweasel and reinstall firefox to be able
to enter text in the webpages.

It is really annoying that Debian forks to a crippled browser for the
sake of an icon.

It would be more annoying if Debian lost its distinctiveness by
abandoning its principles, because the diversity of the OSS community
would be reduced. There's nothing else like Debian; feel free not to
use it if it doesn't suit your requirements.

What functions?

What the hell were we supposed to do? Mozilla won't let us use their
tradmark. A full refund is available for the asking.

I have no problem viewing pr0n with iceweasel. Er, I mean: a friend
has told me that he has no problem viewing pr0n with iceweasel.

I have been using Debian for 3 years, is the distro of my choice, if they
keep removing features from apps because it doesn't fit into their dogma.
Debian may not be so attractive to users in the future.

Usually update are improvements I don't see how removing features can be
called an improvement. Maybe someone with Debian will decide that frames
suck, which they do, and remove frame rendering from the browser update.

It works just fine for me too. Although I don't do any development from
that box.....

_What_ features are you claiming were removed?

It's not real attractive to users in the present, for that matter.

What features have been removed ? I have been using it for a couple of
months and have NO problems at all. It has been the best browser I have
used.

This app I mentioned SOHOlauncher used for website development is on my
Hosts server, which by the way is running Linux. I log on with my
browser, use the text editor which is part of the app, if I use Firefox I
can edit text, cut and paste, or simple type it in, save it and it will
be visible on my web page. If I use Iceweasel or Iceape I can edit text,
but it will not be save, any existing text will be invisible even though
it still appears in the editor.

I assume that this ability to edit text has been crippled for some
reason.

There is this one difference between releases, maybe more.

Don't mind Dan C. He is just fishing for reaction.

Has it occurred to you that it might be a bug? Most likely in
"SOHOlauncher"? Just about everyone who uses Iceweasel enters text into
Web app edit windows everyday.

I suspect that SOHOlauncher is looking at the browser ID string and not
liking Iceweasel. Try telling Iceweasel to ID as Firefox.

What i mean is, that you've installed firefox yourself and it solved your
problems, so there are no problems anymore.

There is nothing wrong with installing an program that isn't in the debian
repositories.
And if you're worried about updates, well firefox can do that himself, so no
problems there either.
