I hate to disagree, but it is working quite well for me.

Of course, I'm not using jack or xmms. I see a lot of jack stuff
installed, though.

Stream for output or input? I use streamtuner and audacious to listen
to interet radio with no problem. No need for jack.

Do you have a hard requirement for jack? I see jack in the list of
output plugins for audacious, but ALSA seems to work fine for multiple
playback streams.

If you are stuck on jack, I think you just need to find and install the
plugins for your sound app(s). That's my guess, anyway.
