NFS should take care of the LAN:

First, make sure that you have installed NFS support. Then,
edit /etc/exports (search the web for syntax, if you need), or open
System | Administration | Shared Folders, and set up your shares.
Then, to connect to them from another machine, just do this:
sudo mount machine:/share /mnt/mountpoint
If you will use them all the time, add the shares to your /etc/fstab so
that it automatically mounts at boot-time...
