Open a root command prompt and type 'apt-get install adept' or 'apt-get
install synaptic' without the quote marks. The application will then be
found under Menu>System. If using KDE 'KPackage' should be there by default.

Here is a good article about apt-get:

If you chose "desktop system" on install time, there should be synaptic
available on your box. You can call it from the command line or from

gnome-menu -- Debian -- Applications -- System -- Synaptic Package Manager

This covers software installation
..
For configuration of your system see the various tools in
gnome-menu -- System -- Administration
and
gnome-menu -- System -- Preferences

As I reecall, YAST is more encompassing than any single tool in Debian.
But most of the functions are available via graphical tools in Debian.

OK
But I only installed command line wanted a very light machine with webserver
and mailserver on it.
Suse has yast fot command line and Yast2 on the Grafical interface.

This means I have to install window maker on debian. What is the name of the
package for window maker or any other verylight.

Thanks

aptitude install wmaker blackbox fluxbox fvwm2

should give you lots to play with. There's plenty more.

Perhaps a little more information about what exactly you want to do would
help. If you're only looking for a software installer, you already have
that with apt-get.

Or aptitude.
