Debian Etch Gnome

Dear hackers what can I do?
Since a while after my computer goes to
screen save mode my password is not accepted
anymore.
If I then select “change user” and login again with
the same name and password, it is accepted.
This is very annoying and I like to have this fixed
can it be a virus or what?
