| 4th International Conference on COTS-Based Software Systems ICCBSS
2005 "BUILD AND CONQUER" : www.iccbss.org/2005 (February 7-11, 2005
Bilbao, Spain)
Today's COTS market is rapidly changing as the need for advanced
software continue to increase. More and more components are re-
appearing in the software market each day in order to fulfill business
demand. However, there still exists a clear geographical distribution
in software components sales (US and rest of the world). There is
still a patent difference between the number of sales made in Europe
and those reported in the US.
ICCBSS is coming for the first time to Europe, bringing the
possibility for researchers, vendors and users to join in the same
place to exchange ideas about current best practices and future trends
in the COTS business market. This fourth conference will emphasize the
use of commercial components in the most competitive European business
sectors such as Banking, Automotive, Telecommunications, Defense,
Government and e-business, as well as focusing on the increasing
importance of smaller vendors and users within the commercial
component market.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The conference theme for ICCBSS 2005, "Build and Conquer", emphasizes
the importance of relying on the use of existing components available
in the market for building systems as opposed to building from
scratch. Currently the COTS market is growing due to the emergence of
new technologies such as service-oriented computing, web services and
the increasing demand for Open Source systems and components.
Therefore, one key topic will be the development of open platforms to
facilitate the adoption of third party components, and to extend the
business contributions of small COTS vendors. Topics of particular
interest include (but are not limited to):
Consolidating COTS Market:
* Interoperability
* Architecture
* Maintenance and obsolescence
* Standards
* Domain specific
* Total cost of ownership
COTS Legal Issues:
* Export regulation issues
* Legal industrial issues
* COTS Benchmarking
* COTS vendors roadmap
COTS Success Stories:
* COTS market population
* Integration success stories
* Critical Systems with COTS
COTS & Open Source:
* Open Source and risk management
* Open Source and obsolescence
* Quality integration issues
COTS vs. Components:
* Evolution of COTS methods for e-services
* COTS vs. services
COTS & WebServices:
* Web Service Composition
* Reliability, Safety & Security
* Service oriented computing
* Service based contracts
