The following updates are from the distributedcomputing.info website
( http://distributedcomputing.info/ ). These updates cover public distributed
computing projects (projects in which anyone can participate).

February 22, 2005

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap....html#lhcathome ) LHC@home is
active as of yesterday, after migrating to a new project server.
Participants' recent preference changes and forum posts may not have been
transferred to the new server. Version 4.64 of the Sixtrack client
application is available for Windows as of today. Version 4.63 is available
for Linux as of January 30. You may need to reset your LHC@home project in
your BOINC client to get the new Sixtrack binaries to download.

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap-science.html#cpdn )
climateprediction.net has completed over 5 million model years of climate
simulation as of yesterday. The project has completed 67,467 standard
simulation runs and 2,590 THC slowdown runs.

- the ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap...tml#hardwareevo )
Distributed hardware Evolution Project began beta testing its new project
server today, and will finish testing on February 28. After testing is
complete, participants will have to replace "139.184.166.27" with
"stats.dbestern.com" in all of their client scripts to connect to the new
server.

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap...ce.html#setinew ) New SETI@home
is now posting news updates about its data server problem in its
( http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/tech_news.php ) technical news section.
The data server appears to be stable now. Also, the project is looking for
volunteers to ( http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_translate.php )
translate the project site into non-English languages.

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap-math.html#nfsnet ) NFSNET completed
sieving 5^307 + 1, and began sieving 7^254 + 1, a more-wanted Cunningham
number, on February 19

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/platforms.html#boinc ) BOINC has added
a framework for website translations, and digital signing for all project
application files, as of February 17. It is also adding "support for
account management systems that simplify participation in multiple projects."

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/ap-misc.html#monkey ) The Monkey
Shakespeare Simulator is short of resources and cannot accept new entries.
If you would like to sponsor the project, contact the project owner.

- ( http://distributedcomputing.info/upcoming.html#lattice ) The Lattice
Project has 140 BOINC clients deployed at the university of Maryland, and is
developing a version 4 BOINC project server to use for the public part of
its project

- new ( http://distributedcomputing.info/news.html#050222 ) news article:
AScribe's short overview of
Einstein@Home

- new ( http://distributedcomputing.info/news.html#050221 ) news article: an
interview with Ian Foster and Steve Tuecke about the state of grid computing
