Im cross posting but im 24hours in now and must have a resolution to
this so I apologise for it.

Whilst trying to install a postfix/courier-imap setup to a redhat 8
server I stupidly used the glibc-2.3.2-11.9.i686.rpm package from
redhat 9 and installed with force, nodeps.

And its screwed the machine badly and it is now refusing ssh
connections (i currently have two sessions open though) with the error

cannot handle file 'libc.so.6' with TLS data

If i try to revert to previous (and correct glibc-2.2.93-5.i386.rpm) i
get the same message.

Help. As stated i currently have two ssh sessions open and they are
working. I can ssh out too but not in. sftp isnt working either.

If my connection dies to this machine then im in big trouble as its
located a 1000 miles away.

Much songs and praise will be sung in honour of the person who can get
me out of ths one.

Regards

Tam

Why not restore your machine to the state it was in immediately before you
did the --force --nodeps from the backup tape you made before making that
change? Is there someone out there that can put the tape in the tape drive
for you? You could do the rest remotely, I suppose, with ssh.

Use rpmi to fix the problem;

/usr/lib/rpm/rpmi -Uvh glibc-2.2.93-5.i386.rpm --force
