| hi! this might be stupid question but I'm newbie and I'm really
curious
Why Fedora 2 comes with package mysql-3.23.xx when there is newer
version of mysql server (4.xxx).
Is there any stability or license issues with version 3.23.xx or what?
thanks...
Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and
dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.

License issues. Search the fedora-devel-list archives at
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/ for the relevant
flame wars.

thanks for reply, but...
searching through devel-list archives I've found this:
MySQL 3.x client libraries - LGPL
MySQL 4.x client libraries - GPL (whole mysql 4 is GPL)
PHP license is not GPL (it is much more BSD-like)
Fedora Core is GPL. All the software in Fedora Core 1 is GPL
No, not at all. There are a wide varity of licenses in Fedora.
We cannot put mysql 4.x in Fedora collection because it is
GPL but we will allow php which is not?!!
my personal opinion: it's really stupid to throw away mysql 4
so I've found a solution at fedoranews.org:
