I want to try Fedora Core 3 and was wondering weather anyone has had any
problem with soundblaster live 5.1 analog. I am still tossing up weather or
not to install FC3. I did have mandrake 10.1 on my machine recently but took
it off due to problems with sound. I have tried fedora 2 in the past but
when I installed it, it made my machine unbootable, has there been similar
problems with FC3??
Any general input would be greatly appreciated, is it worth putting onto my
machine ??

cheers

I've got FC3, and everything works on my Dell P4 system. FC2 had problems
with up2date, which seem to have been resolved. Of course, I'm still
using the default audio and video hardware in my Intel 810 motherboard, so
I don't know if your Soundblaster will work.

I also have a Compaq R3010US laptop running FC3, where everything works
except the [Insert favorite profanity here] Broadcom Wi-Fi hardware. Some
people report that they can load the Windows driver using ndiswrapper, but
I've never got it to work. It looks like I'll either have to wait for the
reverse-engineering project over at Sourceforge, or buy a PCMCIA card
adapter that is supported by Linux.

My main complaint is not Fedora-specific: I can't find a newsreader for
Linux that works as well as Forte Agent. Pan is _almost_ as good, but it
doesn't handle as many binary formats. I could still run Agent, but I
would rather block all Internet access while running Windows; that's the
simple way to opt out of the vulnerability-of-the-week club.

Ndiswrapper works with the Broadcom 54G. I have a Compaq R3000z
running FC3 with a Broadcom 54G and it works fine. You'll need the XP
driver and Ndiswrapper, follow the instructions in Ndiswrapper's README
file and you'll find that it works fine.

Use Knode , it better than Pan and it's a lot easy to configure.

If you go for it be sure to check out
http://www.fedorafaq.org/

Tho it is the "unofficial" FAQ you should treat it
as important as reading the Release Notes.
