Author Drive Crash - Need a clue

Hello,

I had a stable installation running FedoraC2 using two hard drives. The main
hard drive with the "/" partition is intact. An older hard drive on which I
mounted the SWP partition and a /temp directory crashed. Now, the machine
stops on boot to run drive utilities. I don't know what to do next. I have
removed the failed drive, but the system still wants to find the SWP and
/temp partitions on boot of course. When I mount an OS using using the boot
disks in Rescue Mode, I can only 'read only' the /etc/fstab file. I want to
continue to boot the main hard drive and use the data on that drive as well.

Anyone give me a clue which way to go next?

Thanks in advance...David

The easiest way I know is to use the SystemRescueCD from;
http://www.sysresccd.org/

Assuming that you don't have a replacement hard drive is to boot using the
SystemRescueCD and use qtparted to resize the root partition and create
the swap partition. Then edit /etc/fstab file, point the entry for swap to
the actual (hdaX) new swap partition and remove the old tmp partition
entry.

If you have a replacement you still can use the SystemRescueCD to create
the new tmp and swap partitions on the hard drive. You still might (read
will) have to edit the /etc/fstab file to point to the actual partitions
for tmp and swap instead of using the partition labels.

SystemRescueCD hangs during the autoconfig phase right after the processor
OK. I'm downloading KNOPPIX and will try that next... I'll post result.
Thanks...David

Turn it off, it's one of the options...... press the F1,2,3,4 keys when
the splash screen is displayed for options and help.
