Author install freefonts?

I get blurry fonts in gimp, so I want to install freefonts. However, the
README said: unpack the tarball to /usr/X11/lib/fonts. I don't have such a
directory.

So, I decided to use the RPM package, that's safer. But it complains that
/usr/share/fonts/Type1 is needed:

rpm -ivh freefonts-0.10-14.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
/usr/share/fonts/Type1 is needed by freefonts-0.10-14

How can I get this directory? I assume a simple mkdir is not sufficient,
otherwise RPM could just go ahead and do it.

Thanks!
Markus
