KDE Login Screen won't allow for root login on Fedora 3
|

| Hey everyone,
I just switched my login screen from GNOME to KDE and now it won't
allow root login. It says "Root logins are not allowed."
How do I fix this. The version of KDE is 3.4
Thanks

i guess you switched the display-manager from gdm to kdm. If so, you
have to configure kdm to allow root-logins (local or remote). Within kde
you can do it out of the control-center.
Btw., disabling root-logins is not a bad idea. Use su or sudo to do
what you have to to with root privileges - and your box is much more
secure.

As root modify the /etc/Xll/xdm/kdmrc file;
Sections [X-*-Core] and [X-:*-Core]
AllowRootLogin=true
FYI: Logging into Linux (even a GUI session) for normal every day usage as
root is not a good idea. You can always use your normal user account from
within KDE;
KDE Menu--->System Tools-->File Manager Super User Mode
to accomplish any tasks that might need root access.

That worked. The KDE login screen now allows root to log in, but I'm
getting a lot of crash errors under KDE when I log in as root. I
switched the desktop for root to GNOME, and it's working fine. My
regular user account is set to KDE, and I will use su - to change
settings.
Thanks for your input!

I am more curious on why the KDE login screen won't allow root login.
I use my normal user account to do almost everything. When I switched
login managers, I tried root login and it didn't work and it bothered
me a bit.
Thanks for your input
