WEB Authoring Tools on FC3?
|
|
|
| Hello Group ...
Are any of the applications on FC3 to be used for WEB page design, or is
there something else available(open source) that is more appropriate?
(versatile and user friendly)
Thanks,
Bill

There's Quanta Plus. It's not Dreamweaver, but it's quite usable.

Thanks Rinso ...
I downloaded Quanta Plus 3.3.2 and launched it, but It wants Tidy(HTML
syntax checking) installed to be fully functional. In checking
sourceforge, there seems to be many versions(and lots of old ones too)
of Tidy but none i can tell specifically for FC3. They have projects
listed for HTML, Java, PERL XS, Python wrapper, HTML Trim, XHTML/XML and
Jase. Will all these work with FC3.
So for HTML syntax checking, would it be HTML, HTML Trim, XHTML/XML and
Jase out of the projects listed, the right candidates to choose from?
thanks,
Bill

Hello Bill.
Try installing Quanta. In FC3 you can type 'up2date -i quanta' and
it'll solve any dependancies it needs.
Enjoy!

In FC3 the package containing quanta is called
"kdewebdev" (http://kdewebdev.org/), so the command would be "up2date
-i kdewebdev" or "yum install kdewebdev".

Hello Bill,
My mistake. They've re-arranged some packages and I didn't notice
they've included Quanta in the kdewebdev-3.3.1-1.i386 RPM.
So, to install Quanta and it's dependancies : 'up2date -i kdewebdev'
That should install all the KDE web development stuff. I don't know if
you're a Gnome or KDE fan but it will work regardless. (Personally, KDE
kicks as but the new version of XFCE might be even better...)
Hope this helps,
Me.

Thanks for the help everyone. How do i verify that Tidy was updated?
when kdewebdev finished it prompted me with another window saying it
needed Tidy to be fully functional. This looks like it did nothing...

Thanks for posting that, it worked for me, but it also says that tidy was
not installed, I hate to sound like a noob (since I am), but could you
find time to tell me what I need to yum to get tidy?
Thanks zillions

I found this package 'perl-Tidy-20031021-1.1.fc3.rf.noarch.rpm' at the
Dag repository. Is that what you're refering to?

This one works perfectly:
http://tidy.sourceforge.net/cf/tidy_linux_x86.tgz
When you have download it, save it to /usr
then:
cd /usr
tar -xzf tidy_linux_x86.tgz
you will then have a binary executable at /usr/bin/tidy. Quanta Plus will
detect and use this automatically. You can also use it to check html files
from the command line:
tidy myfile.html

Thanks Rinso ... I looks like it worked. I launched Quanta and it did
not give the tidy warning window this time ... Thanks, Bill
