hello eveyone

i'm running mandrake 6.1 (just for learning) went thru the install
(barebone) no frills (no gui) it picked up the dlink DEC nic card
installed the appropriate modules.

ifconfig eth0 shows the nic but with no ip. have to run dhcpcd at the
command line then iconfig eth0 to see the dhcp assigned ip.

during the installation i chose not to enable any of the startup
services like the following :

anacron
apmd
crond
gpm
keytable
linuxconf
netfs
network ********
pcmcia
sendmail
syslog

i've checked the following configuration files:

/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts=AD/ifup and ifdown
/etc/rc.d/init.d/network

can't find how to enable dhcpcd at startup. is it set somewhere in the
compiling of the kernel ? many thanks for the help

Ask this in a Mandrake or general Linux newgroup. This is a Redhat Linux
newgroup. Besides Mandrake 6.1 is really, really old!!!
