Greetings,
Here's a newbie question I hope somebody can help me out with:
I installed Fedora Core 4 on a Digital 7000R Server (30 GB/512MB).
Installation went fine. When booting I click on "Show Details" and all
processes appear to start without problems ([OK] sign next to each of
them).
After the HAL deamon is started, the screen goes black and there's a
cursor blinking on the top left corner of the screen. Waited for a few
minutes and tried several key combinations but nothing happened.
Rebooted several times and always encountered the same problem.
I really don't know what to do from here. Any ideas?
Thanks much in advance for any help you can provide!

Sounds like an issue with the X-configuration. Restart the system and
when the GRUB boot menu is displayed press the 'Esc' key. Highlight the
Fedora boot choice and press the 'e' key. Hightlight the line the has
something like 'kernel /boot/vmlinuz' and at the end of the line add a
space followed by the number three(3) then press the 'Enter' key
followed by the 'b' key. After the system is done boot log on as root
and issue the command; system-config-display --reconfig

When done test the new configuration by typing; startx

If everything looks good then exit out of the GUI session and type 'init
5' without the quotes when the system is ready to accept a log on from
the GUI screen press the three key combo of Ctrl+Alt+F1 and press the
'enter' key then log out as root. Press the three key combo of
Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back to the GUI log on screen. If not then post back
and provide the information about you video configuration and any error
messages you get (hint: see the .xsession-errors file).

Please note, if this system is meant to be a server the graphical
interface does not need to be started. As root edit the /etc/inittab
file and change the line that reads as 'id:5:initdefault:' to read as
'id:3:initdefault:' without the quotes.
