Author debugging samba access issue?

while trying to access shared directory on fedora running samba, one winXP
machine is successful, another one gives an access denied error. I believe
the two winXP PCs are set up in a similar way.

Can samba generate a log file showing what machine request access, and
whether access is granted or denied and why?

Check in (as root); /var/log/samba
