| Hi,
I have a redhat linux-enterprise 3 machine. I need to access the
desktop of this machine from a windows computer. I tried using the
inbuilt desktop sharing software on the linux system. But it bacially
has 2 problems
1) The session granted are only 1 hour long
2) There is a need to grant the session everytime I login from my
windows machine
In other words, is there a way in which I can view (and access) the
desktop of my Linux machine from my home computer
I would really appreciate any help. I am a novice at all this stuff, so
go easy on me.

Since I have no idea what particular software you're talking about I can't
answer too coherently but... I can't think of any reason X or vnc would
have a 1 hour limit on it. An X session should stay open until you close
it... I'm sure the same is true of VNC.

Microsoft terminal services isn't a true terminal service but everyone
(well, people used to MS products) now seem to think the way their
software works is how everything is supposed to work. Sessions don't stay
open after the connection is closed under any other terminal service.

You should be able to view the console (add that to your glossary of
terms... the console is what appears on the connected monitor assuming
there is one) with VNC... though someone else will have to help you out
with setting it up since I've never had a need for it and have no idea how
to.
