Author cups crashes when input is stdin

We're trying to print from SQL Ledger to a virtual PDF printer we defined
using the cups graphical interface. Works fine in Gentoo, but when we
migrated to RH Enterprise 3, it looks like printing from stdin breaks the
virtual printer

Here are the details:
==============
We're using cups-pdf 2.4.1 and cups 1.1.23

If we create a virtual PDF printer and run

lpr -PPDF filename

everything is fine.

But...
if the input to the lpr command is stdin, the print goes into "pending"
with the message ""font resource is not a dictionary"

This situation makes it impossible for us to print from SQL-Ledger because
all the printing is done from stdin.

This problem only exists with our RH Enterprise 3. There are no problems
doing the same operations with Gentoo.

Any help would be appreciated.
