| Joel,
I just spent about 12 miserable hours getting one working... well sort
of. I was never able to get it working in IKE mode but was successful
in manual key mode with the following limitations:
1. I could never get authentication to work at all so I am using ESP
encapsulation and DES encryption only.
2. With DES encryption I could only make it work with an encryption key
of 000000000000000 (what is THAT all about). I may have just been
tired, I will check other keys some time in the future.
Since I have the gateways set to specific addresses and the incoming
and outgoing SPI's set, I figure that is secure enouh for what I need.
It isn't heavily tested yet, but seems to be working fine.
Neither D-Link or Sonic Wall were of any help at all and with D-Link I
was never even able to get across to the tech that I was setting up a
firewall to gateway VPN and not using an IPSec client.
I read somewhere today that Sonicwall's OS 2.5 (the expensive one) now
has built in support for D-Link, Linksys and several other modes.
Unfortunately all ours use the standard OS.
Surprisingly, I had no trouble setting up a firewall to gateway VPN
between the Sonic Wall and a LinkSys WRV54G which is similar to an
824VUP but, alas, is made by Linksys which I despise.
