Hi -

I just installed the Netgear ProSafe VPN Client, which is basically a
version of Safenet Softremote. I previously had Softremote and had
this exact same problem. I was hoping the Netgear version would
resolve it but no luck.

I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2. This happens with or without
the firewall running.

After installing the software and rebooting, the system tray icon for
ProSafe has a red line through it. When I hover over it, the text says
"NETGEAR ProSafe VPN Client - No Driver Installed!" I did some
research on the 'net on this and discovered that the problem is related
to the SafeNet IKE Service. I noticed that even though it's set to
Automatic, it's not running. When I try to manually start it, an error
comes up saying "Could not start the SafeNet IKE Service on Local
Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to
start."

I checked Event Viewer and found this error repeated several times:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 3/4/2005
Time: 8:13:58 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SONYVAIO
Description:
The SafeNet IPSec Plugin service failed to start due to the following
error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I've searched all over the 'net with Google, and while I did find
several postings from people that have had the same problem, I didn't
find any solutions.

Can anybody help???

Thanks very much!!!

Greg.
