I cannot get the cisco kernel vpn module to compile on an
AMD 64-bit system running Suse 9.2, kernel 2.6.8.

The install script gives several 'warning 64-bit' messages.

Does the cisco VPN linux client support AMD 64-bit?

If so, what do I need to know to get it to compile.

If not, does anyone know of Cisco's plans to support it
in the future.

Thanks,
Peter

Sadly, no. I spoke to the cisco tech support folks and they said not only do they not support 64-bit linux, they don't seem to even have it on their product roadmap.

The only problem, as far as I can tell, is that they bundle two 32-bit compiled libraries with the client. I asked if there was any way that those could be compiled 64-bit for Linux and offered to help them get it working and was told that he would talk to the development group and get back to me. That was 2 months ago.

I'm using plain, old vpnc and having mediocre results. I find that when it connects correctly it works pretty well, but often times if my connection is dropped it will reconnect, but not transmit any packets to the remote network. Patience seems to be the only cure.

Also, for some reason I couldn't reach any networks but the remote vpn network (i.e. all external traffic was being dropped). I made a small change to the vpnc-connect script to only route the vpn networks through the tunnel and everything works now.

I hadn't found kvpnc, so I'll give that a shot and see what that brings.
