Author How configure QS
spger@hollow.cum

2004-09-24, 5:45 pm

I want to bypass my own ISP mail server using QS, and understand I need to
set up an account elsewhere that offers smtp access.

Having done that though, how do I configure QS to go through that account
rather than my own ISP .. newbie question ..

Thanks

The best way to send mail to a remailer is directly to a remailer's smtp
service, bypassing your ISP or any other type of pay or free email
accounts. I say "best" because I guess it's a given that since you're
using the remailers in the first place you trust them with your anonymity.

Read Zax's fabulous TLS page at https://www.bananasplit.info/mailtls.html
for a very good explanation of the process. While some servers may accept
unencrypted connections, TLS is the way to go. Tools like stunnel and
openSSL are required and he explains the process very well. He also
provides an example of how to configure QS to take advantage of these
services. The related page at noreply https://www.noreply.org/tls/
provides a listing of remailers which accept mail directly and how they do
it.

Read and absorb. You may be a newbie, but I have faith in you.

Open a default message (click File|New|Message). Change the Host header
to the new SMTP server and change the From header to your new email
address. Then click 'File|Save as Default|Message'. Do the same with
your default usenet article. Change any templates you have created and
save with 'Save as template'.

Please take a look at my website on the Support Options page. There are
several options including 3 mailing lists. I'm no longer supporting QS
in this group.

I thought you didn't support QS in this forum any more!

Or is that just something you keep saying so you can fall back on it when
you can't answer the tough questions?

It was a valid question so what's your problem with valid questions?

With that attitude you just have to be

A Dr Who Sockpuppet.

Looks like SOMEONE stuck a nerve.

You didn't answer the question. Every time we see you under the gun you
yell PLONK or pull out the no support card. Sometimes within hours you're
back supporting Quicksilver on Usenet. Usually you even insert a few
childish digs at whoever called you out on whatever it was you screwed up
in the first place.

Do you support Quicksilver here or not? You claims not to, so why are you
doing it? It looks like a cowards safety net to most people. Sock puppets
screaming incest fantasies only makes it worse.

one alternate smtp that I sometimes use is a free account
at hotpop.com

Just configure your msg template to use hotpop's smtp
something like this:

Fcc: outbox
Host: smtp.hotpop.com
From: username@hotpop.com
To:
Subject:

~~

Note, hotpop requires smtp authentication, you can either use the smtp auth
function in QS or simply "POP before SMTP"... check pop3 mail from the
hotpop account before using it to send. doing a pop3 check about every 25
min or so keeps you 'logged in' for sending via their smtp.

the downside is that last I knew, they dont support alternat smtp ports,
but they do allow for pop3 port to be 1110 instead of 110.

I would just like to say I like QS and it seems to be working
pretty well for me. Not a lot different than JBN, really.

Looks like you assume that wasn't Christman replying.

Looks like Christman might NOT be grown up enough to answer the question.

Looks like Christman really does use his no support policy to avoid things
he doesn't like. Hardly a sign of maturity if you ask most people.

I will try and update that page this weekend, it's a bit out of date due
to updates in OpenSSL and newer ciphers. If anyone has dappled with
stunnel configurations and has anything to add beyond the excellent
example on my webpage that was submitted by Bikikii Admin, I'd be
pleased to hear about it.
