Bananasplit is now hosting the following news hierarchies:

alt.anonymous*
alt.privacy*
alt.security*

These are in addition to those previously available. Currently the new
groups are read-only until I'm confident there are no issues. The
exception to this is alt.security.keydist which is open for read and
post immediately.

Please advise me of any problems, experienced or foreseen!

Thank you, Zax. :o)

Do you also take requests for group additions? Not that I need any
at the mo, just for future reference.

Yes certainly I do, providing they are topical. Sometimes takes a
while to get other news servers to send them to me as I need to ask all
my peers to include those groups in my feed.

Posting to groups is becoming a problem at the moment; by leaving the
news server completely open to posters and stripping identifying
headers, it's been targeted a couple of times by spammers. Although
they can only hit a few groups, it's still undesirable. I'm looking for
solutions to this at the moment.

Cool. Thanks again.

No prob. Even with pay-services one has to wait for new group
additions. And yours is free! :o)

Well, the IMHO best solution is to restrict posting to those having
an account. Since the NNTP-server is non-anonymous anyway (and free),
I don't think it's too much of a hassle to ask for a bit of effort
from people wishing to post through it.

These groups are now all read/post access. In addition there are a couple
of extra groups added at users request:
alt.computer.security
comp.security.pgp.discuss
