HELP!!!!!! Mixmaster tutorial please
|
|
| Nomen Nescio 2004-12-05, 2:45 am |
| Ok I've had enough, has anyone written a tutorial for using Mixmaster on
the command line in Linux ?
E.g
Does the file you point to have to include all of the headers (including
destination) as well as the actual message ?
Or are you setting destination via the cl args ?
Can someone please post a valid WORKING example of how they use mixmaster
(like with cl args etc) ?
In interactive mode is it possible to STOP MIXMASTER OPENING XXXXING VI,
and open a normal editor like NANO instead ?? How please...? Setting an
environment variable for EDITOR in .bash_profile does nothing.
And then I have to install shitty sendmail, and mess about for weeks just
so doesn't operate an open relay.... OR... can you get mixmaster to make
the message then send it using a normal email client. I think this is what
the old Mixfit on the Mac used to do.
I don't know what the conspiracy is all about with remailers and anon mail
in general to keep it strictly for unix geeks, eggheads oh and windows
dimwits (as that seems to be the only platform with anon clients with a
GUI) but really it is PATHETIC.
Probably one of THE most important types of software in this ugly 'new
world order' and NO ONE has put together a modern convincing GUI on this.
Frog was right, messing about on the commandline to send a stupid message
is a joke. Linux is a joke. Nonetheless please help

I would use the interactive mode and specify all headers (e.g. the
References and Subject headers).
One thing I had trouble with was not executing 'Mixmaster -S' to
actually send the messages in the remailer pool.
You will get a file like outfile.0 that you can cut and paste into your
regular e-mail client. Remove the first two lines and send it to the
first remailer.
And of course, make sure you use current stats and keys or your messages
will not arrive..
Regards,
Thomas

Thanks Boschloo, I was hoping you would answer.
Well I have new problems. I installed postfix, got it running ok, but it
seems some remailers are complaining about missing MX records and I am
getting bounces, do you know how I need to configure these ? Do people
normally put in a valid domain name for their MTA just for Mixmaster?
Also is there any way to update stats using Mixmaster itself , or do I
need to get them manually via the web...i guess I could write a script or
do something with curl etc...seems a pain though
(I think they are going from the pool without me doing -S see above)
thanks

I don't know much about linux though..

I don't use remailers very frequently, but I do always specify my real
e-mail address. That way error messages can also find a way back to me
and in the old days I remember that Replay would drop messages that
didn't have a legit e-mail domain (they would not get posted).
| Also is there any way to update stats using Mixmaster itself , or do I

If you only want to test mixmaster out (which you probably should at
first to get a feel for it), why not retrieve the stats by hand? Just
download the files in your browser and overwrite any old files sitting
in your mix directory.
If that works, you can always draft up a script.
I even used mixmaster with the old stats supplied with it, making sure
the remailers I used hadn't change their keys yet. Most of the time
remailers just work, so stats aren't that paramount either in most cases..

|
| thanks
Yeah, that was something Stray Cat helped me with in the long past. I
don't know why I needed it but I did need it back then..

posts to one of my email addresses works ok (as long the first remailer
doesn't bounce it back), but haven't yet been able to get a post on
usenet. will keep trying
