Darn cell phone rang and I had to interrupt my weekend for a "breakdown" at
a customer site. For anybody that knows about motors/generators, a 5000Hp
generator flashed over. It is in a Ward Leonard configuration. The
generator regulator field voltage feedback card failed causing an
over voltage to the generator. On top of that, the field suppression
circuit
was bad and let the field flux decay instantly causing the flash.
The regulator is old, about a 1978 analog design. The company that made it
is no longer in business. I maintain it as a favor to a good customer.
Nonetheless, it kept me up all night getting things going again for them.
I wanted to make a separate post to thank all that contributed to my M2News
thoughts. When I get some sleep, I'll go through them. I appreciate
everyone's help and wanted to let you all know it.
My warmest regards,
Twisty Admin
