I'm retired. ;)

Just the usual tools. Google, ping, traceroute, nslookup, whois. There's a
few tricks of the trade like knowing where to look for certain
information, some Google hacks, and how to read headers and the output of
the other stuff. Nothing magic about it, I just get to do it a lot.

That didn't take long. Could be the guy just changed his IP though. He's
running Linux so it's possible he released and got another IP lease from
his ISP, or just unplugged his modem for a while. Or, maybe they gave him
a TOS. Wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit.
