Author Still trying for PGP2-compatible panta nym...

I've succeeded in *creating* a nym at the panta nym-server (i.e. the
nym ID has appeared in the list) but I can't get any response out of
it. I've attempted to send test messages both to and from it (the
latter should have resulted in a server ack, as configured) and seen no
result at either end.

The chain I used to submit the configuration was the same specified in
the reply block, so I wouldn't have *thought* that the reply block was
broken. However, I received no confirmation request. Does the panta nym
server require confirmation -- and does it expire non-working nyms?
Otherwise, I'm going to be stuck with this 'zombie' nym blocking all
attempts to create another on the same key...

I have a copy of the (unencrypted) configuration message that I sent,
if that's any help. It won't reveal much sensitive data to anybody
who doesn't hold all the private keys of the remailers in the reply
block :-)

The server does indeed require confirmation of reply blocks. It will also
expire nyms after 120 days of non-use with a warning being sent after 90
days.

Just give me the account name, and I can have a look if all is well.
Remember to put PGP2 into the userid of your key to enable PGP2
compatibility mode.

You can email me on admin at panta-rhei dot dyndns dot org if you want.
Cheers,

Not sure if your nym terminates to a.a.m but I've been experiencing
problems getting stuff to show in that group. And, just for the record,
I've been at this stuff since '96.

The past three days I've sent roughly 20 test posts using only two
cpunk remailers in my chain. I also copies of the original a.a.m posts
to a .test group. Out of the 20 sent, only one showed in a.a.m, while
18 out of the 20 made it to the .test group.

I've looked at the few posts from others' in a.a.m and both bananasplit
and dizum M2Ns' are posting there. So it isn't the M2N gates, nor does
it seem to be remailer related.

What's left but third-party interference. Okay, I'll say it. TLA <bg>

If you keep the secret key to your nym, you can always upload a new
reply-block AFAIK. You can also delete your nym with the secret key to
it. That is my experience with nyms YMMV.

All that activating your nym does is moving it from '+disable' to
'-disable' I think.

The relevant part in the Panta nym help file is:
"If your request is successful, you will get mail through your reply
block acknowledging successful completion. In this acknowledgment, you
may also be asked to confirm your reply block by sending mail to a
particular confirmation address. This two step process in necessary at
times to cut back on the number of nyms with bad reply blocks which are
left for dead. A new account will be deleted if the reply block has not
been confirmed in one week. Note that if you receive an acknowledgment
which does not ask for confirmation, your mail alias will already be
functional."

Read the help file carefully,
Thomas

Ah. I may be cutting it a bit fine then -- I only just found the
'bug' :-(
We'll see if I get any confirmation through on Sunday...

I just discovered the reason why it wasn't working -- on examining more
closely the configuration I'd set up, I noticed that I'd forgotten to
enter any domain name for the account I wanted email forwarded to!
Clearly I've spent far too long handrolling configuration messages in
the format

Config:
From: Igenlode_W

... Cue a very red face -- naturally, all messages coming through
*that* reply block were disappearing into the aether of invalid
addresses! :-)

Since I wrote the software myself, I suppose I ought to add a check for
an '@' in that field... but honestly, there's only so much one can do to
protect a program against rank stupidity on the user's part ;-)
