Note the bit about Gradwell mail2news (below). I thought
mail2news WAS an official service. I haven't seen any
announcement withdrawing it.

Message-ID:

Is Gradwell blocking specific posters, or newsgroups, or is the
service down?

QuickSilver Mail2news Gateway Log
This is an automated listing generated by a PERL script. Every 4
hours beginning at 12:40am MST, all mail2news gateways are sent
a message destined for the alt.test newsgroup. Every hour
begining at 12:50am that newsgroup is checked for any messages
that have arrived. All entries below are present in the order of
most recent first. If the mail2news is listed near the top, it
is functioning.

NOTE: Currently test messages for gradwell are not getting
through. Gradwell is not an official anonomous mail2news
gateway, so I don't want to rock the boat by contacting them.
However, I will continue to ping them.

This report, but covering a longer time period, can be found at:

AFAIK, it was opened up a few years back to provide posting
access to people that only had read access to usenet. It's
also used by some moderated newsgroups to automate converting
emails to usenet posts.

It was never specifically set up for the remailer network.

>From what little I've read, there is an anti-flood filter that

blocks an ip for some time when it sends too many similar posts.
Richard's pings probably ended up with him being automatically
blocked.

Probably happens with remailers too on occasion.

I don't think contacting them will rock the boat. There have
been plenty of abuse complaints about remailer users sent to
them and they've never blocked anyone because of it. They'll
be aware that remailers are posting through it and evidently
don't mind.

Maybe they'd consider whitelisting Richard's ip if he notified
them.

It is officially supplied to our customers, but it isn't wide open.

Some of your customers (like me) like to use anonymous remailers
on occasion.

Thanks for the service.
While I've got you on the phone, is there any means by which we can obtain
the newsgroup list supported by mail2news@news.gradwell.net?

nope. Unless you're an existing customer of our usenet services, in
which case you could mail our support team.

cheers

I suggest connecting to it via telnet (with terminal logging turned on of course) and then give the command "List".

if it's like most, it will happily spit out a list of all newsgroups that it supports.

for anon purposes you might want to route your telnet through TOR by way of sockscap.(others can tell you how, I don't have time right now)

No need.
'Authentication Required'. mailto:mail2news@news.gradwell.net?subject=List
doesn't work either - does work with banana, though.

I wonder if Gradwell would have a problem with one of its subscribers
obtaining the active file and making it available to us?
