Sued? Computer services cant be sued for much. Especially free ones.
The courts consider it all "computer files which you are putting on someone
elses machine with their permission". You are lucky if the courts even
consider your emails, postings, web pages, and stuff stored in your
directory as even being YOURS instead of belonging to the root of whatever
machines its passing thru.

Let me get this straight. Trolls who use remailers to disrupt newsgroups
are going to sue remailer operators because they aren't letting them troll
anonymously?
If you do "sue their asses off", please keep us apprised of the court
proceedings. I need a good laugh.

You may call it "the lazy droof's guide" but really, a bot that
collected and posted remailer-config information daily for exit
remailers would be a real help. There is a slight security risk in
pinging the remailer's remailer-config just before using it as an exit
remailer. It's the same rationale behind what Nymfinder does with nym
names, allow people to see what names are being used without having to
ping the nymserver directly.
Some curiousities stand out from the list. Why do so many remailers
block alt.fan.dragons? I wonder if this list might be underscoring one
of the dangers I worry about, about using blocking as an abuse policy:
once a group gets blocked, sheer inertia tends to keep it blocked,
even though the abuse that led to the blocking might have happened
months or years ago. Also, groups like alt.atheism get a lot of
trolling without remailers, I can't see how blocking these makes any
difference in the group's signal-to-noise.
And why is Italy blocking Demon mail2news? That's odd.

Maybe Demon blocks Italy? Demon does not accept from everyone.

I am a regular poster to a.r.s. and I'm not sure why it's
being blocked by antani and starwars. It's been years
since we've had any spam attacks or floods and even
when we did, the floods did not come from remailers,
but from fictitious accounts paid for by the Church of
Scientology.
http://www.torymagoo.org/sporgery.htm
Again I'm not sure why it's been blocked but I can assure
you that alt.religion.scientology is a newsgroup that should
not be blocked by remops, at least not that this time.
Scientology is a vindictive cult and has a history of stomping
all over free speech, especially on the internet. I hope you'll
reconsider blocking a.r.s. at this time.

I second that. A list like this posted on a regular basis would be handy
thing to have around to make sure that my msgs get to the group I'm trying
to post to.

Um.. would it be possible to arrange for some groups to be automatically
unblocked? I can see where a remailer would want certain groups (like any
binaries groups) to be always blocked, but for the rest it would be good to
have a point at which it got unblocked.
one idea would be a mod for Reliable (or a script that mixmaster can call)
that would look at two values for each group blocked... name and days.
if days is like -1, then its a perm block, otherwise days is decremented
every day.. when it hits zero then that group is removed from the block
list.
could have a similar method of dealing with blocked addresses / domains
also.
I wish I were a programmer, I'd love to see this happen.

Some time ago, Fredrick Rice squared off with me, my service, and some
other remailers because Church members were using them to post anti-
psych posts. That may be why this group is blocked. Fredrick should
understand that he cannot have remailers that only allow his side to
post, if remailers are allowed to post there, church members will also
use them.

Doing it daily would be pretty pointless. Other than Parsifal who
changes his config as some sort of hourly ritual, other remailer
configs are updated very infrequently if at all.
Weekly or fortnightly would be better.

At this point in time, both the C of S and many of the critics of Scn
think Fred Rice is a kook. He's been in my killfile for years so I
really don't know what he has to say but I don't think many people
respect his opinion on things.
I don't have a problem with Church members posting with remailers, but
I've noticed they hardly ever do use them. They mostly use newsguy or
some other service that blocks the IP address.
Whatever the reason, it's probably an old out of date reason and I
hope the remops that are blocking a.r.s. will reconsider.
Btw Steve, I've recommended cotse to others that need anonymity.
Thanks very much to you and to the remops for making it possible for
people like me to post. I would not have been able to do it without
all of your help.

A question for anyone:
If I wanted to use remailers to post to NewsGroup "X" would I have to
insure *all* the remailers in my chian allow posting to NG "X"? Or
would I only have to insure my *last* (exit) remailer allows posting to
NG "X"?
Thanks very much for everyone's continued and *much appreceated*

Have a great day.

Only the last one. The other (previous) remailers do not know where the
message will go in the end after all! That would solve a lot of abuse
problems if it where true (and make the network useless at the same time
except for Faking/Trolling).

I noticed this too in the post that started this thread. ARS is the
reason (Cypherpunk) remailers were invented in the first place! The
remops should know their history better.. Maybe if they couldn't afford
being Sued by CoS, but still.. Why run a remailer if you are easily
intimidated? <http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/cos/r...anon/penet.html>
I also noticed that Italy blocks the whole nl.* hierarchy! Probably due
to fake from line abuse. I don't think it is a good thing that nl.* is
blocked. Especially the support groups there!! We have some very nasty
trolls in nl.support.*, but they are never anonymous as far as I have
seen. <http://www.spaink.net/varia/JohanVoorhaar.html>
mail2news@dizum.com is probably the only way to post anonymously
to nl.* .

Well, I got most of the way there only to find that in the end my idea had
one flaw. The resulting file was too huge to post via mixmaster.
