I'm trying to use my Hotpop account with JBN with no success. I can't use
the SMTP. When I try to send mail, I receive "Unknown control error 27110".

This is my send profile:

Profile nickname: nickname
SMTP server: smtp.hotpop.com
From Header: nickname@HotPOP.com

This is my retrieval profile:

Profile nickname: nickname
POP3 server: pop.hotpop.com
POP3 User: nickname@HotPOP.com
POP3 Password: password
Check mail every: 5 minutes

Any idea what I need to change in the config? Do I need to connect to
specific ports?

This is most probably an authentication issue.
Hotpop seems to require "POP before SMTP" which is a very basic
authentication scheme.

Two possibilities:
Either check mail before sending, or maybe you can get SMTPAUTH support at
Hotpop. This would ask for user/pass for sending, and my JBN2 mod would
support that.

Hope you get it working,
Cheers,

the problem is definitly SMTP AUTH. "pop before smtp" stopped working some
time back in my experience. I however send via hotpop smtp all the time
using panta's mod and it's smtp auth functions.

this msg sent via smtp.hotpop.com (and several remailers of course)

I use hotpop with JBN all the time, and I use the pop before smtp
authentication, so it still works. (in fact, I use the
same for QS too. Never could get the "smtp authentication"
to work with password).

You may need to pop twice, and the pop only lasts about 30
minutes,
so be prepated to pop every 25 minutes or so (check
your setup for email retrieval: Window/Retrieval profiles.
Set "Check mail every" to 20 minutes or so).

I will definitely try the panta mod.

Thanks for your help, both of you. I'll let you know the results.

Even with the panta mod, I still cannot send mail with my hotpop account
through JBN. I still get: Unknown control error 27110

Any more ideas? I'm stumped.

Does your ISP block port 25?

Three possibilities:

Set the security options of your hotpop account to use SMTP authentication,
and add the username and password into the appropriate fields of the panta
JBN mod.

Set the security options of your hotpop account to use "POP before SMTP"
and check mail before sending.

Fix the first remailer and use it as SMTP server directly:
Set first remailer to panta (top in the list) in your email book.
Make a send profile with SMTP server: panta-rhei.dyndns.org, put something
bogus into the other fields.
Use the panta send profile to send email with first remailer panta.
You can do that with every remailer, just make sure the first remailer in
your list is the same as the one you use as SMTP server.

I recommend option three, as I know it works.

I've used this and it works.

I've also used this and it works as long as you remember to pop first.
