Author Extensions to Panta Reliable Mods?

Panta's modified Reliable has some useful-looking capabilities. It
seems that hashcash, one of the additions that Panta added, can be
used as a controller or key to unlock capabilities of the remailer
that are not available to someone who is not using hashcash.

I use a VB module with Reliable to give me more control over last-hop
messages, and have found the extra control very useful. If the
functions of the VB module were integrated with hashcash, a remailer
using them would be able to offer a two-tier service, letting anyone
post without hashcash, but with disabilities, and with no
disabilities using hashcash.

For what it's worth, here is a short description of the extra
controls I use. Maybe Panta, or some other programmer, would consider
adding something like this to Reliable.

1. Duplicate detection.
Reliable's duplicate detection is poor, requiring, I believe, an
exact duplicate of a message to reject it.

My version does a crc check on a last-hop message, and compares it
with the crc value of any other message that went to the same
newsgroup in the past x hours.

If the ratio of the two crcs is less than some value, the new message
is considered a duplicate and discarded.

2. Flood detection.
If more than x messages arrive for a newsgroup within y seconds, they
are considered a flood, and moved to maildump.

All messages to that newsgroup arrving within the next z seconds are
considered to be part of the flood.

3. Disclaimers
Rather than block a newsgroup that is being plagued by psychos, a
disclaimer is added for that newsgroup, and custom 'from' headers are
not allowed. Blocking takes place only as a last resort.

These disabilities can be overriden if a key, previously sent to the
remailer, is included with the message.

The key part is klunky and could probably be replaced by some use of
hashcash.

Not if you are a kid or a psycho. For everybody else, it does an excellent job.

I know, I have used it under almost all its names and I'll tell you: that operator puts more
effort into weeding out the kids and the psychos than anybody else who runs a remailer, at
least from what I can see.

I give the remailer my highest recommendataion.
