Parsifal - where has it gone?

| Where, oh where, has Parsifal gone?
Now, it's not unknown for Parsifal (or his previous
incarnations) to shut down and then return a few weeks later -
like a phoenix reborn from the ashes - but we usually get a bit
of an explaination as to just what went wrong this time (and
whose fault it was).
Parsifal - what happened?

I thought I read something a week or so ago that Parsifal is now back to
Congo, a middleman only remailer.

Not for long, but I am trying to get ADSL at my flat real soon! Might
even start a remailer if I ever get a spare PC (I sold an old one to my
little sister, which still is a very nice computer so I don't expect to
get it back soon).
Do you have World of Warcraft? If so, what server will you be on? We
could chat there ;-)
(Almost forgot, Horde or Alliance?)

No, most of my time behind the computer is spent working. I write "real
time" control software fo manufacturing.
I get a little tired of it after awile and pop in here to relax.
I enjoy the commentary.
Regards,
Argyle
BTW, I hope you do get a server up. That would be nice. I have a cable
connection and am in the last steps of setting my main computer up as a Tor
server.
Unfortunately I am stuck with windoze since the application software I must
use only runs on it.

Argyle

What language? Do they still use ADA these days? Or C++?

Don't hold your breath though ;-) But I want to setup an FreeBSD box
with whatever is common over the next couple of years. It would run from
XS4ALL, but not at the CO-Location like Dizum does. I guess each has
their advantages. And Den Helder (Holland) is a long way for any snooper
to travel <grin>.

Just be careful when you run windoze. Try to apply patches before they
are discovered and run a _very_ restrictive (hardware?) firewall.

Well, glad to see you trying.
My application software is written in proprietary languages. For example I
am programming in Rockwell ControlLogix right now. It is a multitasking
processor with a proprietary language consisting of ladder, control block,
and structured text. I can set the task rates as low as a millisecond or 2
but rarely find the need to go beyond 2 milliseconds for a control loop. An
example might be a high speed servo valve for hydraulic screws on a cold
rolling mill. The time constant of the valve is usually about 20 to 30
milliseconds. A good rule of thumb is to execute your control loop 10 times
faster than the time constant of the valve you are controlling. So in the
above, 2 or 3 milliseconds is just fine.
I am running 2 millisecond current minor loops on 11,000 Hp motors without
any problems. When you think about it, I am slinging around 12,000 amps at
700 volts. that's a lot of power. One hot strip mill I did had 7 stands at
11,000 hp per stand for a combined connected total of 77,000 Hp. To put
that into kilowatts, it would be 574,420 Kw per hour. Take a look at the Kw
you use at home for a month, maybe 800 or 900 Kw hours (I average 855 Kw
for a pretty big house, (all natural gas for hot water and heat). Heck,
these mills use more power in an hour than an average household could use
in 50 years.
You better believe I am careful. <grin>
Love chatting with you my old friend.
My warmest regards,
Argyle
