Yesterday, during normal maintenance activity of the server
that runs the Winston Smith Project Antani anonymous
remailer,we found evidence of unauthorized hardware
manipulation.
This maintenance was programmed for an ISP change.
This is more than enough, of course, to take action as if
the server was compromised.
The Antani remailer is stopped, the keys are revoked, and
input queues that are waiting on the secondary SMTP will
soon be bounced back.
Remop private key was not compromised, and is still valid.
The remailer will remain down until the server is relocated
in a new, monitorable, environment. Details will follow.
Please remove Antani from stats and take all the necessary
countermeasures.
Good grief !
Antani admin.

First Paranoia remailer and now you. Is this some attack
by the Italian authorities on all remailers they can get
their hands on?

| At this time, the know facts can be explained that way.. and in simpler
way too, as (for example) a pending police investigation.
Just add your preferred quantity of paranoia ...

I dunno, but shure as shit I wish I had the time to run one myself.

This message was sent via two or more anonymous remailing services.

Time? My mixmaster remailer under Debian runs itself. I haven't
had[1] to tinker with anything in almost a year. Prior to that,
the Reliable remailer just needed a quick look at approximately
once a week, or if Windows crashed. Not quite as hands off, but
not bad.
It runs on an old IBM server that I picked up for less than $100
a couple of years ago on EBay.
[1] Although I haven't HAD to, I have tended to do a bit of
tinkering on occasion - to test mail2news servers and webmail,
etc. The remailer, though, would have run itself without my
intervention.

As for me, I can manage the time easily enough, I just wish I
had another box and something faster than shared dialup to run
it on.
