I'm actually using the latter, through Dizum, which like all other
Cypherpunk remailers will not post with a GnuGP/Linux-encrypted
message, but I want one-step trivial anonymity, as with the old

alias_group.name@newsanon.ath.cx

remailer.

When I get to the bottom of this GnuPG/PGP incompatibility, this
will all go away...but in the meantime I need a less laborious way
of posting to Usenet with some anonymity. "nospam_" options leave
the "Reply-To: intact with most M2N gates, so that's no good.

you could use mixminion to send to a mail2news gateway, It's been getting more common since that win32 client got written.

If you are using GnuPG, you probably want to use the DH/DSS keys of the
remailers. Otherwise, add the --pgp2 option to your gpg.conf file
(without the dashes). That is what I do. (and be sure to install/compile
the IDEA.c plugin if you are encrypting to version 3 type RSA keys)
